27 vehicles carrying waste from Kerala fined

A total of 27 vehicles, including 23 lorries, which were carrying plastic, meat and medical waste from Kerala, were slapped with a total fine of ₹ 16.20 lakh in the district on Thursday.

The vehicles, which were coming from Kerala via Shencottai, were intercepted at Puliyarai check-post by police and Healh department officials.

While 19 trucks carrying plastic waste were fined ₹ 20,000 each, four mini trucks were fined ₹ 10,000 each. Four other trucks carrying medical waste were slapped a hefty fine of ₹ 3 lakh each, sources said.
