Twenty two persons in the district have tested positive for Chikunguya since June this year, according to the Director of Public Health, S. Elango. He was speaking at a meeting here on Saturday night, with Health Secretary, Subburaj, to review steps to control mosquito menace.
Mr. Subburaj told reporters on Saturday evening that “Viral fever” was common during this period. So far, 21 lakh people had been affected by various types of fever in the State. He claimed action had been taken to prevent spread of Chikungunya in the state, with Rs 3.6 crore being allocated for the purpose. The Government had secured five modern machines, having the capacity to kill mosquitoes en masse to control and prevent chikungunya.
Intensive fogging operation was being carried out and the administration would attack mosquito breeding spots, he said. Both Mr. Subburaj and Mr. Elango said, the situation would be monitored on a daily basis.
