190 students showcase talent in drawing competition on Kalam’s birth anniversary

More than 190 students from 77 schools in the district showcased their drawing skills in the drawing competition, jointly organised by Junior Red Cross, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Arogya Hospital to mark the birth anniversary of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The students from class VI to XII gave shape to their imagination and drew pictures on the theme ‘Kalam’s Green India – 2020’ at the competition held at Mohamed Sathak Dastagir Matriculation Higher Secondary School (HSS) here on Wednesday.

Arogya Hospital distributed free drawing materials and lunch for all the participants.

The students came out well with a variety of drawings, focussing on green, M. Ragland Madhuram, district secretary, IRCS, said.

A.P.J.M. Nazema Maraikayar, the former President’s niece, and A.P.J.M.J. Sheik Saleem, his grand nephew,encouraged the students by visiting them at the school. Impressed by the drawings, they said that they were confident that the student community would fulfil Kalam’s vision for prosperous and developed India. The prize winning drawings would be displayed at the ‘Mission of Life’, the gallery depicting the life of the former President at ‘House of Kalam’, they said.

In all, 27 students were given prizes and certificates, A. Shanmugarajeswaran, district president, IRCS, said.

S. Jeyakumar, District Educational Officer, distributed merit certificates and Dr. R. Bharanikumar and Dr. B. Vidhya Priyadharshini of Arogya Hospital distributed prizes to the winners.

S. Nandhagopal, Principal of Mohamed Sathak Dastagir HSS, advocate M. Somasundaram and Ramanthapuram District Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Asmabagh Anvardeen were among those present on the occasion.
