16 kg ganja seized; four held

MADURAI

A special team of police seized 16.20 kg of ganja and ₹1.32 lakh from four drug peddlers near Usilampatti on Tuesday. Three two-wheelers used for smuggling the narcotic substance were also seized.

Usilampatti Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Raja said during a vehicle check on Usilampatti-Batlagundu Road, the police intercepted three motorbikes around 2 p.m. During questioning, the riders gave contradictory statements following which the police team checked their bags and found 16.20 kg of ganja. The accused were A. Sekar, 46, of Nallampatti, K. Murugan, 48, and P. Kamayee, 44, of Keeripatti and M. Ramaraj, 28, of T. Balakrishnapuram.

Mr. Raja said Kamayee had come with the cash to buy ganja from the other three. Further investigation is on.
