11 country bombs found in garbage bin in Madurai

Eleven country-made bombs were recovered from a garbage bin at Anna Nagar here on Monday.

Special teams have been formed to track the suspect, believed to be part of a gang, who allegedly left the bombs in the bin.

A woman conservancy worker was emptying a bag found in the bin on the First East Main Road when she found a few bombs falling from it, the police said. “I was shocked and dumped the bag back into the bin,” she said.

A bomb detection and disposal squad removed the explosives from the scene.

Nine bombs were made of tin containers of tooth powder boxes and covered with insulation tapes. The remaining two were tightly packed with white threads.

“A gang of four from Madurai, Kovilpatti and Tuticorin was recently held at Mangadu in Chennai. During interrogation, the gang members admitted to plotting a murder and revealed that one of its accomplices in Madurai had a few bombs with him,” a police official said.
