The Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scan unit at Government Rajaji Hospital must be commissioned soon, said Su. Venkatesan, MP, here on Monday.
He said the scanning machine worth ₹10 crore, installed eight months ago, was lying idle. Waiting for Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisamy to inaugurate it was nothing but waste of infrastructure. It must be inaugurated soon after employing a Nuclear Medicine Physician to handle it, he said.
A GRH doctor said though the machine was ready, radioactive elements needed for its functioning were yet to be procured. Commissioning the machine improperly would lead to radiation exposure. “The scan facility is located close to the entrance as cases from other hospitals may also be directed here. GRH is one of the few government hospitals in the country to have such an infrastructure,” the source said.
Mr. Venkatesan said he has appealed to Health Secretary Beela Rajesh to look into the issue.
