NAGERCOIL: Teachers should make the classrooms an inter-active platform for students and not focus on the customary one-way teaching, said Director of School Education, S. Kannappan here on Saturday.
Honouring the teachers who gave 100 per cent result in SSLC and Plus Two public examination during the last academic year at a function in Nagercoil, Mr. Kannappan said that the Intelligent Quotient level of present day children was high, hence, the need for teachers to update their knowledge regularly has become a necessity.
Due to the advent of internet and other advanced communication tools, the world has shrunk to a global village, hence, it is for the teachers to update their knowledge, Mr. Kannappan said.
As a result of an intensive enrolment drive undertaken by the Department of School Education (DSE), government schools have achieved 99 per cent admissions, hence, it is the responsibility of the teaching community to offer the students a quality education, he added.
Though classroom teaching is important for academic improvement, students should be allowed to play games in schools and they should also be taught value education, the Director stressed.
The department is introducing multi-media mode of education (LCD Screen with projector) in about 745 schools across the State from the current academic year. Action has been initiated to fill up vacant posts of Post Graduate Teachers in government schools, Mr. Kannappan added.
Mr. Kannappan also released an Android application for Plus Two students. The application has been developed by subject experts among the government schools teachers in Kanniyakumari district.
