To learn subjects in depth while upholding the value system is the key for students to have success in their lives, opined G. Madhavan Nair, former chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation.

Interacting with school students during the Space week celebrations organised by the Greater Cochin Development Authority, Mr. Nair observed that the country’s young generation were generally reluctant to enter the areas of science and technology. “The best hands among the country’s scientists are those who entered the fray in the 1950s and 1960s while hardly any reputed figure has emerged from this segment after the 1990s’’, he said.

He also emphasised on the need to commence works at the school-level to promote scientific thinking among students. “The present education system in the country is stereotyped in such a way that students are obsessed with medicine and engineering as the only options for higher studies, ’’ Mr. Nair added. GCDA secretary R.Lalu presided over the event. Indira Rajan, CEO, Sarabhai Science Park , Rekha Nair, Senior Scientist, CMFRI were among those who spoke.
