Three days after the body of an unidentified woman wrapped in a blanket was found floating in the Periyar, the mystery behind the suspected murder remains unresolved.
The Aluva East Police had registered a case of murder on Wednesday and had also sought information from the public to help them identify the woman.
The blanket in which the body was found wrapped as emerged the single biggest lead for the moment as efforts are on to retrace the sequence of events. Using the bar code on the blanket, the police have zeroed in on a local store from which it was bought.
The police are looking for clues about the suspects from the CCTV visuals of those who bought the blanket.
It is suspected that an injury to her lips is a tell-tale sign of her murder by smothering. The police also suspect the involvement of more than one person in the crime from the way the body was found wrapped in a blanket and submerged by tying a stone to it.
Though the body was found floating around on Tuesday evening, it was taken ashore only on Wednesday morning. The police suspect that the body of the woman, who could be aged between 25 and 40 years, might have been three to seven days old at time of its recovery.
The medium-built woman was found to be 154 cm tall and was found wearing a blue top and green bottom when her body was recovered.
