Woman arrested on attempt to murder charge in Kochi

The Central police on Wednesday arrested a woman on the charge of attempt to murder.

Reshma aka Panchali, 38, of Petta in Thiruvananthapuram is accused of being part of a gang charged with attempting to murder a man named Feroz on Veekshanam Road here on the night of March 31.

The other accused in the case, Theof, 39, of Shankumukham in Thiruvananthapuram, Kannan, 23, of Petta in Thiruvananthapuram, Abhishek, 22, of Kannur, and Jinu Baby, 23, of Kottayam, had already been arrested.

Feroz had complained against the accused of dealing in ganja and alcohol, and he was attacked in retribution, the police said. He was stopped along the road by the accused and assaulted with stones. Though a machete was swung at him, he managed to sway away and escape.

A team led by Central Inspector S. Vijayasankar launched a probe into the case by which time Reshma had absconded. The accused have criminal antecedents. Sub Inspectors Premkumar, Akhil, Rosy, and Govindan and civil police officers Saritha and Shaiji were part of the investigation team. The accused was produced in court and remanded.
