Wheat shipment diverted to Mangalore

: With evacuation of 31,800 tonnes Australian wheat that arrived here at the Kochi port on June 8 still lagging, another shipment of around 27,000 tonnes, initially headed for Kochi, was diverted to Mangalore.

Sources said it was the delay in evacuating the first shipment that prompted the diversion of the cargo. It was initially expected that around 2,000 tonnes of the consignment would be evacuated daily. Meanwhile, the Headload Workers’ Welfare Board has said that all sections of the contract workers would be allowed to join the work force for packing the wheat if the workers registered with the Board are not available.
