Western Ghats to be theme of Kochi metro

The lush green view of the Western Ghats will reverberate through the Kochi Metro corridor as the director board meet held in New Delhi on Tuesday decided to adopt it as the overall theme, with special focus on the Aluva station.

The 22{+n}{+d}meet, which was presided over by Madhusoodan Prasad, Secretary of Urban Development and Chairman of KMRL, approved the thematic designs of Maritime history of Kochi (Cusat station); Spice route (Edappally); Art, culture and literature of Kerala ( Changampuzha Park); Sports heritage of Kerala (Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium); and special focus on history of Ernakulam/ Kochi (M G Road).

Tata Elxis, Metro’s customer-experience consultant, had suggested area-specific themes for the stations aimed at helping the commuters and tourists be aware of the significance of each locale in the 18-km-long Aluva-Maharaja’s College Ground corridor. The board also gave its nod for the Detailed Project Report of the integrated water transport system for Kochi and reviewed its status. KMRL is likely to ink an agreement with German funding agency KfW in December to source Rs. 590 crore as loan for the Rs.819-crore integrated water transport project in the greater-Kochi area.
