Varappuzha Synod, first in 119 years, from today

A synod of the Varappuzha Archdiocese, the first in 119 years, will get underway here on Wednesday.

Archbishop Francis Kallarakkal will inaugurate the synod at the St. Francis Assisi Cathedral after a concelebrated Mass, scheduled to start at 5.30 p.m.

The synod, which will be held at the Ashir Bhavan, Kacherippady, ends on April 12 and is the culmination of preparations that started on October 28, 2012 when Archbishop announced the holding of the synod this year.

22 topics will be discussed

The synod has for its theme ‘a pilgrimage to new life’, said a statement issued by the public relations department of the Archdiocese.

A total of 22 topics to be discussed and approved by the synod will be taken up in 22 presentations.

The synod’s directions will be made known on the concluding day.
