The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) Ernakulam Special Cell on Thursday raided the office and residence of a Deputy Superintendent of Police accused in a disproportionate asset case. Over ₹9 lakh in cash and documents related to investment, property and educational expenses of his son abroad were seized.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) Ernakulam Special Cell, headed by Superintendent of Police V.N. Sasidharan, had ordered the action against DySP V. Hamsa, who is attached to the District Crime Branch (Rural), Thrissur.
“The Bureau has been tracking the officer’s activities for a while. A case was filed two days ago,” said a senior officer.
After obtaining the search warrant from the Kozhikode Vigilance Court, the raid started at his residence in Palakkad and the office in Thrissur around 9 a.m.
A team lead by DySP T.U. Sajeevan carried out the raid in Palakkad. The raid was continuing at night and the team had so far recovered ₹ 9.65 lakh along with four mobiles, four laptops and some other expensive gadgets. However, no incriminating evidence was obtained from Thrissur office.
Mr. Hamsa was not present when the VACB team reached his house. No contacts could be made till night and attempts were being made to trace him.
The charge against the DySP was that he had amassed 63.47% more wealth than his known source of income from 2009 to 2019. According to sources, the officer was engaged in real estate business. There were complaints against him when he was serving as Circle Inspector in Palakkad. Recently, he was promoted as DySP and had worked in Kochi too.
