Two youngsters were killed after the motorcycle they were riding rammed a culvert near the Manattuparambu church within the Njarakkal police station limits on Wednesday around 3 a.m.

The deceased were identified as Vishnu, 27, and Sinoj, 24, of Valappad in Thrissur district. According to the police, the duo had gone to Kochi around 12 midnight and were on their way back when tragedy struck. The reason for their late-night trip is not known.

Police to check footage

“It is learned that they were in the habit of making such trips. The motorcycle belonged to Sinoj, and he was probably riding it at the time of the accident. However, we will have to check the CCTV footage to clarify it,” said Sangeeth Job, Sub Inspector, Njarakkal.

While the immediate neighbourhood of the Manattuparambu church was well lit, the culvert, which was located along a turning did not have enough lighting. Since the victims were not familiar with the place, they would have missed the culvert and rammed it, resulting in their instant death, the police said.

The motorcycle was flung into the air in the impact of the collision and was found some 25 metres away from the culvert.
