Two persons were injured when a speeding luxury bus crashed into a house near Chelamattom in Perumbavoor in the early hours of Saturday.
The incident took place around 2.15 a.m. when the KSRTC bus, plying on the Bengaluru-Thiruvanathapuram route, veered off the road while negotiating a curve and rammed the house. The driver apparently lost control over the vehicle, which then went on to hit the house after slamming its wall, besides uprooting a huge bill board and a coconut tree before coming to a halt,” the police said.
The crash caused significant damage to the house of Shijo Kizhakkumthala. Fortunately, no one was in the room in the damaged front portion of the house, as the family members were sleeping in another room.
“The luckiest thing was that the room facing the road was unoccupied. The building received significant structural damage and will have to be assessed by an engineer,” officials said.
The driver and conductor of the bus, which had around 50 passengers on board, sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital. The injured are as Jino, 42, and Saji, 43, both natives of Thiruvananthapuram.
The passengers were accommodated in another vehicle bound for Thiruvananthapuram.
A case has been registered.
