Two hurt as Metro steel frames collapse

December 31, 2013 01:04 pm | Updated 01:04 pm IST - Kochi

A major accident was averted on Monday night as a huge steel frame for constructing concrete pillars for the Kochi Metro Rail collapsed during heavy traffic at Kaloor in the city.

The square-shaped fencing made of iron bars installed in the middle of the road collapsed around 10 p.m. A major accident was averted as it got stuck on the tree and power lines along the area, thus preventing the structure from falling on to the road. Power supply was disconnected shortly by the KSEB. The structure was restored to the original position using a crane. Traffic along the area to the Palarivattom area was disrupted for hours following the accident. Two employees of the construction company carrying out the work on the stretch were admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
