The North Police have arrested two private bus employees on the charge of assaulting the driver of another bus.

The arrested were identified as Sajith Kumar aka Chinchumon, 30, and Jobith, 32, driver and conductor respectively of a bus operating on the Kakkanad-Thevara route.

They are accused of assaulting Basil, 32, a resident of Mazhuvannoor and driver of a bus operating on the Muvattupuzha-Ernakulam route, at Kaloor private bus stand on the morning of December 1.

The victim suffered serious injuries to his nose and head.

The accused had been absconding ever since and were taken into custody from Thiruvananthapuram by tracking their mobile phone tower location.

Misbehaviour alleged

According to the police, the two parties had a scuffle over bus timing at Thrikkakara on the day before the assault took place.

The accused allegedly misbehaved with women passengers in Basil’s bus who questioned their action.

Following this, the victim along with the women passengers lodged a complaint with the Thrikkakara police based on which a case was registered. This did not go down well with the accused who manhandled him the next day.

A team comprising Anas, Sub Inspector; Asi Sebastian, Assistant Sub Inspector; and Vinod Krishna, senior Civil Police Officer, made the arrest.
