The Kalady police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a juvenile, on the charge of attempt to murder.

The arrested were identified as Sarath, 22, of Mattoor village, the key accused, and his alleged aide, a student. They were picked up in connection with the alleged attempt to murder Manu, 28, of Kanjoor on June 20. The police had earlier arrested the second accused in the case. According to the police, Sarath had assaulted a relative of Manu, who in turn, informed the matter at the former’s home. It was in vengeance against this that Sararth stabbed Manu on the night of June 20.

The accused blocked the motorcycle in which Manu and his friend were travelling and roughed up both of them. Sarath then stabbed Manu in his stomach and fled the scene in a car. They were hiding in various places since then. Their attempts to secure anticipatory bail from the district court and the High Court while still in hiding proved futile.

As they had run out of money, they were on their way to collect money from a friend when the police intercepted them based on a tip-off.

A team led by Station House Officer T.R. Santhosh, sub inspector Rince M. Thomas, senior civil police officers Sathar and Shiju and civil police officer Anil made the arrest.

While Sarath was produced in a Perumbavoor court and remanded, the juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
