Traffic modifications at Kakkanad junction

They are aimed to end snarls and freak accidents

Traffic reforms are being introduced in the area around the civil station at Kakkanad with a view to ending the snarls and freak accidents that have become commonplace there.

The modifications, to be enforced on an experimental basis for a fortnight, will include a three-way signalling system at the junction in front of the Media Academy. As per this, vehicles from the Vazhakkala side will have to take a free left at the signal junction and those bound for Infopark and Pallikkara will have to take the road in front of the district panchayat office -- which will now be a one-way route -- to reach Kakkanad junction for onward journey. Vehicles bound for Ernakulam from the Infopark side will have to cross the signal junction. Vehicular traffic to the other three sides will be regulated by the traffic signal.

The road from the collectorate joining the Seaport-Airport road will also be designated for one-way traffic. The modifications were presented by RTO Reji P. Varghese at a meeting convened by District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla.
