The Thripunithura First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday remanded the two accused in the twin ATM robberies at Irumpanam and Koratty to judicial custody till November 24.

Haneef Khan, 37, of Mewat in Haryana and Nazeem Akbar, 24, of Jurehra in Rajasthan, the first and the third accused respectively, were produced in the court after the mandatory medical check-up at the Thripunithura taluk hospital. They were sent to the District Jail at Kakkanad. The duo were arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by T. Uthamdas, Inspector of Police, last week.

The police will move the custody application for the accused on Monday and are hopeful of getting their custody by Tuesday. They are also looking forward to getting the custody of Pappu Palsingh aka Pappy, the second accused who remains lodged in Tihar Jail after being arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch in a motorcycle theft case, by November 14 on a production warrant issued by the Thripunithura court.

Since Pappy has as many as 19 cases against him in various north Indian States, it is not yet clear whether it would be possible to bring him here on the said date.

The SIT had bought the two accused from Delhi to Kottayam in the early hours of Friday and then took them to the Hill Palace police station by evening. Three more accused are yet to be arrested in the theft of ₹25 lakh and ₹10 lakh each from the ATMs at Irumpanam and Koratty. They are suspected to be either in Rajasthan or Haryana, and a police team will be sent to nab them as soon as their whereabouts are known.

A total of five cases have been registered against the six-member gang, all of whom are workers in trucks used to deliver vehicles in Kerala.
