The tele-network, which aims to provide cardamom farmers with updates on prices and the weather, will help in the scientific production and effective marketing of spices, Spices Board chairman A. Jayathilak has said.

Inaugurating the tele-network at Thodupuzha on Thursday, he said that information technology should be used more effectively for the benefit of spices farmers. It will help the country to keep the upper hand in quality and traceability in the international market.

In the cardamom sector, Mr. Jayathilak said, farmers’ forums will be created and grading machines will be supplied to them. He said that graded cardamom would yield better prices than the ungraded variety. Nutmeg farmers will also be informed of the daily price levels through the tele-network.
