How adept are techies in the social media-driven art of memes, which owe their very existence to information technology?

A month-long Techies Troll Contest launched by Progressive Techies (PT), a combine of IT professionals in the State, aims to find techies with a knack for conveying a message using wit and humour.

Theme of contest

Participants, however, will have to restrict their imagination to the IT industry, which has been selected as the theme of the contest. Any incident or development related to the IT industry may be explored, without criticising any individual or organisation.

“We have been organising various events to explore and enhance the cultural, technical and social ethos of the IT community. The troll contest was born out of the increasing popularity of memes in communicating an idea. We have already received around 20 memes,” Anish Panthalani, State President of Progressive Techies, told The Hindu .

Each participant may submit any number of original memes, which may be in any language and created using any software or even sketched.

Memes published elsewhere will be ineligible for the contest.

Selected entries shortlisted by a panel of judges will be published on the Facebook page of Progressive Techies and the winners will be adjudged after giving equal weightage to judges’ opinion and popularity reflected by the number of likes.

Entries watermarked as ‘Techies Troll Contest-Progressive Techies’ should be send to progressive.techies@gmail.com, complete with name of the participant, mail id, phone number and company name, and the tool used for creating the meme.
