Team probing Aluva theft expanded

With no trace of the culprits behind the theft at a house in Aluva nearly a week ago, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has been expanded, drawing in more officers.

District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K. Karthik had formed the SIT led by Aluva DySP and Aluva East Inspector as the investigating officer shortly after the crime.

25 members

“The team has been expanded to 25 members drawing in officers good in investigation, including cyber investigation, and those experienced in dealing with similar crimes. We are looking into every possible angle and the probe will be relentless till we reach a logical conclusion,” said Mr. Karthik.

He said the team was examining fingerprints collected from the scene of crime. Since the district in general and Aluva town in specific has a large migrant community, that aspect is also being looked into. “We have send teams across the State and even outside in pursuit of the culprits,” he said.

Valuables worth ₹30 lakh were stolen in the theft carried out at the house of George Mathew of Seminarypady last Friday.

CCTV footage

“We have collected CCTV footage from six or seven points and they are being verified along with visuals collected from lodges,” said Aluva East Inspector Rajesh Kumar.

Several teams

The investigation team has been split into several groups assigned with specific tasks.

While one team is verifying CCTV footage, another team is rummaging through similar crimes, while yet another team is verifying mobile phone call details in the area.
