: Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Employees’ Union, CITU, has called for immediate government intervention to restore the Corporation’s ability to make effective market intervention and prevent food inflation.

More funds needed

A statement issued by the trade union of employees claimed that the government had so far given the apex cooperative only Rs. 60 crore for purchases.

As a result, the Corporation was not making any fresh purchases or tendering for supplies.

The statement said that the Corporation would need about Rs. 250 crore to effectively intervene in the market.

The union also alleged that the State government led by the UDF was trying to “destroy” the Corporation.
