The District Planning Council (DPC) meeting has opined that the implementation of various development works should be in a time-bound manner and that project works should be speeded up in the district.
The meeting presided over by District Collector E. Devadasan reviewed the implementation of projects related to various departments. Of the development projects worth Rs 233-crore, Rs. 31 crore has been spent. The departments and agencies that topped in spending the amounts included the Department of Roads and Buildings, Public Welfare, Water Authority, Public Education, Public Health, Kudumbasree, Irrigation and Soil Protection.
The Collector said that care should be taken by officials to utilise the allotted amount in a time-bound manner.
The Public Works Department informed the meeting that though funds were allotted for the repair of roads and administrative sanction was given, the works could not be completed owing to continuous rain and that they would be completed after the rain relents.
The officials also said that the roads were in a bad shape especially in the High Ranges due to recurring landslips and damage caused by powerful flow of water through the culverts.
The meeting also reviewed various development issues in Devikulam Assembly segment.
The meeting was attended by Devikulam MLA S. Rajendran; District Panchayat President Alex Kozhimala; and heads of various government departments.
