SmartCity to have green buildings

May 25, 2013 01:17 am | Updated 01:17 am IST - KOCHI:

The buildings of the SmartCity project will be constructed in tune with the internationally approved eco-friendly standards. The structure would comply with the LEED platinum certification from US Green Building Council, said SmartCity Managing Director Baju George. The project work will begin in July.

The decisions were taken at the review meeting of the project held on Friday.

By following the LEED certification programme, internationally reputed companies could be attracted to the project. The possibility of tapping solar energy would also be explored, he said. The application for environment clearance would be submitted before July 15, he said. Mr. George placed a request for extending the metro rail project to the SmartCity area before the Chief Secretary E.K. Bharat Bhushan, who visited the project site on Friday. He also sought support of the State government for improving the transport facilities to the region. Around 20 consultants took part in the review meeting held on Friday.
