The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the theft of a few computer hardware components from the machine room of a ship being built at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) continued to collect the statements of employees engaged by CSL.

The CSL authorities had lodged a police complaint as soon as the theft was detected on Monday, following which the Inspector General of Police, Kochi Range, and District Police Chief (Kochi City) Vijay Sakhare constituted the investigation team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, District Crime Branch, Biji George.

The police are trying to ascertain the exact date of the theft and are keeping a close watch on the employees who were on duty and also on those who had gone one leave since then. CSL engages thousands of employees almost on a daily basis.

Mr. Sakhare is reviewing the progress of the investigation every day.

The SIT has already discovered some fingerprints from the crime spot and were looking for potential matches.

Meanwhile, it is learned that the Central agencies are also looking into the episode, considering the strategic significance of the vessel being built.
