The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed local bodies to take immediate steps to eliminate rabies-infected animals.
In a release on Friday, commission chairperson J.B. Koshy said that funds should be made available for the project for control of rabies in animals under the Animal Husbandry Department. The project should be implemented by local self-government institutions and voluntary organisations. If need be, MP/MLA funds be utilised for inoculation of stray dogs.
He said Railways should give compensation and bear the expenses for treatment of injuries suffered by passengers at railway platforms.
