‘Shramam’ to focus on developmental activities

5-day event in Chendamangalam

As part of launching comprehensive developmental activities in flood-ravaged Chendamangalam grama panchayat, Shramam, a Collective Kerala Effort, will be set in motion through a five-day programme from September 29 to October 3.

Shramam is a gathering of various artists and professionals from various fields. The members of the collective held a meeting with the panchayat members of all the 18 wards on Sunday. Panchayat president T. G. Anoop chaired the meeting. Filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is the convenor of the collective.

Green ideas

The programme will present to the panchayat ideas for making it eco-friendly. Traders will bring their ware, while artistes and theatre artistes will take part in programmes to enliven the revival of the panchayat.

Public meetings will be held to create awareness on healthy living.

A 10-point programme was discussed at the meeting, which includes addressing the grievances of people about unequal distribution of relief materials and providing mental support.

The five-day programme would be an inclusive event so that every household in the panchayat got what was due to them and became an enthusiastic partner in planning a future with eco-friendly activities, said Pramod Shankar, a member of the collective.

Survey

As a first step, a survey of each ward will be conducted, led by the ward member in association with Kudumbashree workers and schoolstudents.

The survey will throw light on the needs of the people.

A seminar planned during the Shramam event will discuss the needs of the people and the steps to be taken to deal with natural disasters.

The five-day event will also bring in financial institutions to help villagers take small loans to rebuild their lives.
