Shocks felt in many parts of Kochi

May 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:37 am IST - KOCHI:

Many in Kochi felt the effect of the earthquake with multiple epicentres that shook Nepal, Afghanistan, and parts of north Indian on Tuesday.

There were reports of the vibrations being felt in places such as Panampilly Nagar and Kathrukkadavu.

People, especially those in high-rise buildings, felt that objects were swaying and shaking.

The G. Sivarajan Commission inquiring into the solar scam, which was recording the statement of Kerala Congress (M) leader P.C. George, called off proceedings on its eighth-floor office at Panampilly Nagar. The Commission had to suspend proceedings last time too.

While the probability points towards quakes of 5.5 to 6 magnitude in the State, the twin warnings within a short span should spur the Malayali society to introspect, said Sekhar L. Kuriakose, head of the State Emergency Operations Centre.
