Security stepped up

City Police Commissioner M.R. Ajith Kumar has said that security in the city has been stepped up in the wake of the recent bomb blasts in Delhi High Court campus.

More than 1,000 personnel have been deployed in different parts of the city. Shadow police, including women civil police officers, have been deployed at parks, Marine Drive walkway, shopping malls, and cinemas.

Round-the-clock patrolling in the city limits has been intensified. Special surveillance systems have been installed at bus terminals and railway stations.

Special police teams have been posted at the entry points to the city and vehicle checking has been intensified.

The bomb and dog squads have been put on high alert to check abandoned bags and luggage and these squads will be conducting regular combing operations at bus terminals and railway stations.

Marine Police will conduct regular checking along the backwaters inside the city and do checks at uninhabited islands. Boats and ships at the ports will be checked thoroughly. Special checking will be carried out at hotels, restaurants, homestays and guest houses in the city. Areas where migrant labourers from outside the State stay will also be monitored closely.

Arrangements have been made to use Door Frame Metal Detectors and Hand-held Metal Detectors at strategic buildings.

The Closed-Circuit TV systems installed at various shopping malls will be used for surveillance purpose. Besides the surveillance cameras installed by the City Police at main junctions and vital points inside the city, 20 more cameras will be put up for surveillance purpose.

Special teams of the City Police are now conducting checking at uninhabited places and buildings within the city.

System has also been conceived to observe the parking areas in the city. City Police will monitor the movements of persons with a history of seditious and anti-social activities.

Mr. Ajith Kumar urged the public to pass on information about any suspicious activities that come to their notice.
