September 29, 2011 12:45 pm | Updated 12:45 pm IST - KOCHI:

District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed has asked department heads and local bodies to submit reports to the sanitation committee by the month-end in connection with the sanitation drive to be held from October 2 to November 4.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will sign on a banner on sanitation on the eve of the programme, which is to be held from October 2. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Mr. Pareed at the district collectorate on Wednesday.

The sanitation drive, titled ‘Suchitholsavam,' is aimed at inculcating sanitation habits among all sections of the public. Departments have been asked to draw up separate action plans as part of the drive. Offices of all departments will be cleaned and its progress constantly monitored.

District Panchayat President Eldhose Kunnappillil said that a sanitation parliament will be convened at St. Peter's School in Kolencherry on October 12. The session will be open to anyone from the public.

The questions to be raised at the “parliament” should be submitted to the local body concerned or the sanitation mission by October 10. People's representatives will answer the questions of the people.

As part of the drive, road shows, awards for sanitation at office levels, public sanitation activities, and district-level contests and workshops will be organised.
