The ongoing protests against the Supreme Court verdict in Sabarimala case is anti-democratic in its content, said literary critic M.K. Sanoo.

Speaking at a meeting convened by Sthree Avakasha Samrakshana Samiti here on Tuesday, Mr. Sanoo said the current agitations will push the State backwards to around 150 years.

Speaking at the function, literary critic M. Leelavathi said the women’s right to worship at Sabarimala cannot be denied. Those who don’t want to worship at the temple can abstain from it. However, the right of those who wish to visit the temple cannot be denied, she said.

Kerala State Commission for Women Chairperson M.C. Josephine, MLA John Fernandez, writer K.R. Meera, All India Democratic Women’s Association central committee member R. Bindu, writer Thanooja Bhattathiri, and CPI(M) district secretary C.N. Mohanan were among those who attended.

Fast at Nilakkal, Erumeli

Meanwhile, the Sabarimala Karma Samiti has decided to intensify its agitation against the Supreme Court verdict.

A release issued here by the samiti said that women will observe a fast at Erumeli and Nilakkal on Wednesday. Devotees from Kasaragod to Kottayam will protest at Erumeli while those from Thiruvananthapuram to Pathanamthitta will stage the fast at Nilakkal. The samiti accused the Chief Minister and Devaswom Board of not having any genuine intention to resolve the issue.
