Action will be taken against officials collecting additional fee for providing documents sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, said K.V. Sudhakaran, State Information Commissioner.
In an adalat held at the District Collectorate here on Tuesday, Mr. Sudhakaran said that ₹2 is charged per page of an A4 size document sought by the applicant as per the RTI rules. However, it has been found that officials were collecting additional fee. This will not be permitted, he said.
Ten cases were taken up during the adalat, which included those related to mutation certificates.
It was found that the documents on disputes connected to puramboke land in Cheranalloor village lacked clarity. An application under the RTI Act had sought information on files recorded in 1983 about the extent of private and puramboke land along a waterbody in the region. The official said that steps will be taken to provide the documents sought by the applicant as per the revenue proceedings.
