Kochi Metro Rail Limited has handed over Rs. 15 crore to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, to execute preliminary works for the metro-rail project in the city.

The State government had set apart Rs. 158 crore for preliminary works which include widening of North overbridge, construction of the Salim Rajan Road-Rajaji Road overbridge and widening of the Town Hall-Madhava Pharmacy Junction stretch, the MG Road and Jos Junction-South Railway Station road.

The DMRC, which would execute all these works, had been given Rs. 23 crore earlier. While work has begun on the two overbridges, the agency is awaiting the formal handing over of land to widen the three roads. The contract to widen the Town Hall-Madhava Pharmacy Junction stretch has already been awarded.
