The Anti-Narcotic Squad (ATS) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday arrested two youngsters allegedly with 11 kg of ganja worth ₹5.50 lakh from near the lift on the first platform of Ernakulam South Railway station.

The arrested were identified as Thomas A.M, 24, of Nilambur in Malappuram district, and Sreethu P. Shaji, 24, of Kottarakkara in Kollam district. They were found to be in possession of the contraband in two bags after having just alighted from a train from Coimbatore.

Thomas, a B.Tech graduate, and Sreethu, a graduate, claimed to be working at malls in Kochi. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been in this field for a while. According to them, the ganja was meant for sale in places like Fort Kochi and Mattancherry,” said a senior RPF official.
