Former Rajya Sabha member P. Rajeev has been re-elected Ernakulam district secretary of the CPI(M) at its three-day district conference that ended here on Thursday.

The reconstituted district committee has 45 members, up from 43 earlier, with nine new faces.

State committee members C.M. Dinesh Mani and K. Chandran Pillai besides K.B. Somasekharan, V.S. Shadanandan, T.I. Sasi, Henny Baby, and O.N. Vijayan have been replaced on the new committee, Mr. Rajeev said.

Former district secretary Gopi Kottamurikkal, who was ousted from the party after being found guilty of sexual misdemeanour and later reinstated to work as part of the Muvattupuzha area committee, has found his way back on the district committee.

V.A. Zakir Hussain, who was in the eye of a storm over extortion allegations which were repudiated by the party following inquiry, is back as Kalamassery area committee secretary and Ernakulam district committee member.
