“Never give up. The more challenges you face, the better you will come out. Try to be positive,” the Congress president Rahul Gandhi advised young Asim, who was born without hands.

The Kozhikode native had travelled all the way to Kochi to meet the Congress president. And, Asim listened attentively to Mr. Gandhi as he tired to instil confidence in him.

Mr. Gandhi, who also spoke to him about his future, extended him an invitation to join the party when he grows up.

“I look forward to seeing him do social work and making himself famous. And when he is older, and if he wants to join the Congress party, he is welcome,” said Mr. Gandhi to Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, who translated the conservation to Malayalam for the boy.

“Don’t worry, we all support you,” Mr. Gandhi told the boy.

Asim wanted the school in which he was pursuing his studies to be upgraded to a high school so that he could continue his studies. The previous government had upgraded the school into an upper primary one to facilitate the young boy, who has a disability of 90 per cent, to complete his studies.

The video of the Congress president interacting with the boy went viral after Mr. Gandhi posted it on his Facebook page.
