The Crime Branch probing the Kerala University Assistant Grade appointment scam on Thursday informed the Kerala High Court that the materials collected had proved that two former Syndicate members who were leaders of the CPI(M) had a role in the scam.
The submission was made when the petitions filed by former Syndicate members A.A. Rasheed, B.S. Rajeev, K.A. Andrews and M.P. Russel seeking to quash further proceedings pending before the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court against them came up for hearing.
The other accused were former Vice Chancellor M.K. Ramachandran Nair, former Pro Vice-Chancellor V. Jayaprakash and former Registrar K.A Hashim. The affidavit said that the former syndicate members had hatched a criminal conspiracy with other accused to ensure appointment of their party workers and sympathisers who appeared in the assistant-grade appointment.
The prosecution case was that the first accused, the then Vice Chancellor; second accused, the then Pro-Vice Chancellor; and other accused had conspired with an intention to appoint candidates of their own choice.
In the affidavit, P. Gopakumaran Nair, DySP, CBCID, said the accused by abusing their position as members of the interview board decided to award high marks to candidates favoured by them. The Crime Branch also submitted that the OMR answer sheets were found missing from the custody of the university. It was suspected that the OMR sheets had been destroyed by the accused with an intention to shield the offenders.
