VACB awaiting nod for prosecuting accused

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Wednesday informed the Kerala High Court that the investigation into the case relating to the corruption in the construction of the Pathalam regulator-cum-bridge at Eloor was over and the agency was awaiting sanctions from the VACB Director and the State government for prosecuting the accused officials.

The submissions were made in an affidavit filed in response to a petition filed by Sabu Cheriyan, an accused, seeking to quash the charge against him.

The case was registered on a directive from the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court. The court had directed the VACB to register a case against 13 accused, including V.J. Kurian, then Principal Secretary, Irrigation Department, and K.M. Abraham, then Finance Secretary. The High Court had later removed Mr. Kurian, Mr. Abraham and four other accused from the case. The VACB then proceeded with the investigation against the remaining accused.

The VACB said that the Director, VACB, was yet to give his final approval to the investigation report.
