A people’s convention will be held at Vanchi Square near the Kerala High Court on December 10 as part of a movement by various organisations in support of Preetha Shaji, the 51-year-old housewife who has been waging a long-drawn battle to save her house and property at Pathadipalam near Edappally.

Ms. Shaji, who had to vacate her home on November 23, following a High Court directive, urged the State government to constitute a House panel to probe what she termed an unholy alliance between banks, Debts Recovery Tribunal, and the real estate sector to seize her property invoking the provisions of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (Sarfaesi) Act.

Ms. Shaji said she had been living in a temporary shack near her house along with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and a one-year-old grandchild after the key was handed over to the authorities. She added that her fight to regain the property would continue.
