The police on Tuesday raided the apartment of a couple in Kochi, who allegedly cheated over 200 engineering course aspirants and amassed a wealth of around Rs. 20 crore.
The officials seized documents regarding property owned by Jayesh Kumar and Rari at many places including Munnar, in addition to gold and diamond jewellery, bank documents and luxury cars. Certificates of several students were also recovered.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo who, began their operations two years ago used the ill-gotten money to purchase prime properties in places like Peerumedu and Munnar’’, officials said. The police are slated to inspect the second flat used by the couple in the same locality on Wednesday.
So far, the cops have received 68 complaints against the duo, who led a luxurious life using the money collected from students by offering engineering admissions with the Aditya Educational Institutions based in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. However, students were given admission to Ädisuumalli College, located around 200 km from Hyderabad. The fraudsters were produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (economic offences) and remanded in judicial custody.
