The CBI Court on Friday dismissed the bail petition filed by Protector of Emigrants (PoE) L. Adolfus, an accused in the multi-crore nursing recruitment scam.
Judge Kalam Pasha dismissed the petition citing possibilities of the accused tampering with the evidence and influencing witnesses.
The court observed that since more accused remain to be arrested, releasing Adolfus on bail would affect the investigation.
He was remanded in judicial custody after two days in the custody of the CBI.
The CBI vehemently opposed the bail petition on the ground that the accused kept on aiding tainted recruitment agencies even after the registration of the case related to the nursing scam.
The defence counsel countered the allegations claiming that his client had been sending reports to the Protector General of Emigrants seeking action against recruitment agencies which were charging many folds more than the permissible amount for recruiting nurses to Kuwait.
The counsel reiterated the argument that it was following reports by Adolfus that the Union government decided to hand over recruitment of nurses abroad to government agencies.
