Plan for medical colleges draws flak

Medical officers say proposed colleges at capital, Konni do not have enough qualified faculty

The Kerala Medical Officers’ Association on Wednesday opposed the plea of the government to convert the government hospitals in Thiruvanathapuram and Konni into medical colleges, saying that the proposed medical colleges do not have sufficient experienced teachers.

The petition was filed by the association with a plea to implead itself in the petition of the government, challenging the action of the Medical Council of India in rejecting its applications to start the proposed new medical colleges. The association said the government had given incorrect figures of experienced teachers.
