Pinarayi slams withdrawal of case against KSU activists

Move will demoralise officials, says CPI(M)

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - KOCHI:

The UDF government’s decision to withdraw the case registered against KSU activists for throwing used engine oil on an IAS officer would make the government officials insecure, said CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.

Inaugurating the party district conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayan wondered how an officer could function freely under the government which withdrew the case. There was no security available for the officers to function in the State, he said.

Mr. Vijayan pointed out that the State government had earlier withdrawn cases registered against a few who attacked a police officer and another one registered against Viswa Hindu Parishat leader Praveen Togadia. Mr. Vijayan said such acts of the government would lead to anarchy.

The State government’s action smacked of arrogance and went against the principles of rule of law.

Though the government stated that it withdrew the case by invoking powers vested with it, the government was duty-bound to ensure rule of law, he said.

The CPI(M) leader criticised the State government of failing to appraise the Centre of the apprehensions of the State regarding the inter-linking of rivers.

The proposed inter-linking of Pampa-Vaypar and Achankoil rivers would work against the interests of the State, he said.

Mr. Vijayan accused the BJP and the RSS of attempting to divide the society along communal lines. The RSS was attempting to infiltrate even into organisations that had led social reformation movements in the State. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was appeasing the RSS. The RSS was demanding a new legislation against religious conversions for pursuing its communal agenda, he said.

The party Polit Bureau member exhorted the party rank and file to uphold the communist value system. Strict action would be initiated against those who were found engaged in unacceptable practices, he said.

Earlier, senior party leader C.V. Ouseph hoisted the flag marking the beginning of the conference.

CPI(M) district secretary C.M. Dinesh Mani; P. Rajeev, MP; K. Chandran Pillai and K.J. Jacob were among those who led the proceedings.

Central Committee members A. Vijayaraghavan, E.P. Jayarajan, P.K. Sreemathy Teacher, MP, M.C. Josephine, A.K. Balan, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan and Paloli Mohammed Kutty and senior party leaders, including M.M. Lawrence and K.N. Ravindranath, were among those who attended.

Delegates’ session will continue on Wednesday.
