Plea for further probe into Swami’s death

October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KOCHI:

A petition was filed on Wednesday in the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to the Crime Branch to conduct a further investigation into the death of Swami Saswathikananda in the light of the revelation of Biju Ramesh, one of the witnesses in the case.

The petition was filed by the All Kerala Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Protection Council, Palakkad. According to the organisation, the post-mortem examination report and the chemical analysis report had concluded that it was a case of a death due to accidental drowning.

Earlier, the investigation agency had lodged a refer report before the sub-divisional magistrate court, Fort Kochi, stating that the death was due to accidental drowning. Later, the investigation was entrusted with the Crime Branch by the government. As a result, the case was reopened and, as per the permission of the sub- divisional magistrate court, investigation started on May 7, 2007.

However, no effective investigation was conducted except recording of some of the witnesses. — Special Correspondent
