The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB), which discovered grave irregularities and malpractices in the construction of the Palarivattom flyover, has formally registered a case against officials of the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) and the contractor concerned.

During a month-long probe, the VACB found evidence that the officials of the RBDCK colluded with the contracting firm RDS Projects. The use of inferior quality of cement and inadequate quantity of steel played a role in the pier caps and girders of the bridge developing cracks within two years of its commissioning. This was proven in the test result of samples sent by the VACB for analysis, it is learnt.

The bridge surface had suffered extensive damage within a month of its commissioning in 2016. Experts pointed fingers at slack supervision by officials of KITCO, the project consultant, and RBDCK, although both their head offices are located at Palarivattom.
