Open-top vehicle carrying refuse blocked

Members of the Anti-Corruption People’s Movement stopped the transportation of waste in an open-top vehicle here on Wednesday.

They stopped a vehicle on Mathai Manjooran Road near the High Court in the morning.

A release issued by the organisers said that the Health Inspector, Circle 20 of the Kochi Corporation, reached the site and held discussions with them. The protest was called off following an assurance that waste will not be transported in open-top vehicles.

The protesters said that they had given several written requests to the Corporation stating that waste should be transported only in covered vehicles.

“We had also warned them that open-top vehicles will be stopped if the authorities fail to replace them with covered vehicles. Our protests will continue till the Corporation initiates steps to find a scientific and permanent solution to the garbage woes of Kochi,” they said.
