One more held in gold smuggling case

The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of Customs on Friday arrested one more person in connection with gold smuggling through the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), taking the total number of arrested persons to 28.

The arrested was identified as Nasheed Ameen, 26, of Pattikad, Malappuram.

He was allegedly acting as a middleman between a Malappuram-based smuggling syndicate and ground handling staff involved in gold smuggling.

He is learnt to have confessed to his role in smuggling 12 kg of gold through the CIAL.

He was arrested under the Customs Act and was subsequently remanded in judicial custody by the court.
